Knowing God
John 17:3
Jesus’ experiences of God made him the
person he was. It freed him from all self-concern and enabled him to
relate to people with warmth, ease, sympathy and liberating love. This
is why Scripture attaches such importance to knowing God. Healing
our image of God heals our image of ourselves . . . And John declares,
“Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and
Jesus Christ, whom you have sent” (John 17:3). God’s love becomes flesh
and blood in the person of Jesus. In him it receives hands and feet, a
face and a voice. The purpose of the incarnation was to convince us of
the faithful love of God.
